Women's Hoops Wins Sixth-Straight to Close Out Regular Season

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team wrapped up the 2011-12 regular season with a 66-52 victory over visiting Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Saints have posted six consecutive seasons with at least 10 CAC wins and 17 years overall.

Four Saints (13-12, 10-6 CAC) scored in double-figures in the win led by Katelyn Fischer tying a game-high with 18 points. Jackie Bohenek added 13, Tynisha Parks had 11 and Julie Tomesheski chipped in 10.

Tomesheski also posted a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds while Bohenek nearly joined her with nine boards. As a team, the Saints outrebounded their visitors 48-27 on the day.

After trading the opening baskets it was all Marymount as the Saints ran out to a double-figure lead at 18-8 after 10 minutes of play. The Saints would go up by as many as 18 in the frame before taking a 35-22 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, MU wouldn't relinquish their double-digit advantage the rest of the way despite the Mustangs (10-15, 5-11 CAC) pulling within 10 in the final minutes.

Pee-Jay Gunn led Stevenson with 18 points.

Marymount returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in the opening round of the CAC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.marymount.edu/athletics/wBasketball and selecting the "live stats" and "live video" links.
