Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's
men's and women's swimming teams opened up the 2011-12
season, each splitting meets against Capital Athletic Conference
foes St. Mary's (Md.) and Hood. The Saints men's squad
fell to SMC 140-57 and topped Hood 115-78 while the women lost to
the Seahawks 121-82 and defeated the Blazers 150-50.
Excelling in the individual freestyle events, the Saints
claimed the top spots in both the men's and women's 50
Freestyle and women's 100 Freestyle heats. Katie Moran swan a
25.50 in the 50 free while posting a 56.55 in the 100 free to win
both events. Marymount also claimed second place finishes in the
two contests as Meghan Morch swam a 26.11 in the 50 free and Casey
Thomas swam a 56.95 in the 100 free.
On the men's side, newcomer Steven Kindred won the 50
free with a time of 23.34 to edge his St. Mary's counterpart
by .04 of a second.
An All-American from a year ago, Anna Macedonia also had a
productive day for the Saints. Winning the 200 Backstroke with a
time of 2:13.27, she also placed second in the 200 Breaststroke at
2:36.63 and second in the 200 IM at 2:16.53.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it hosts York
(Pa.) in a CAC meet.
