Women's Basketball Stifles Stevenson

Box Score

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team defeated visiting Stevenson 43-26 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening. The Saints retain their hold on the top spot in the CAC standings with the victory.

Holding the Mustangs (1-13, 0-7 CAC) to a meager 14.3 percent shooting and just seven field goals, Marymount allowed the second fewest points in a game since the 1996-97 season. The Saints gave up just 23 points against Saint Elizabeth last year and held Goucher to only 16 points in 1997.

Junior guard Sam Spencer led the Saints (8-5, 6-1 CAC) with a game-high 15 points. She was the only player to score in double-figures on either squad.

Senior forwards Maame Amponsah and Beth Wiggins owned the board with 16 and 12 rebounds, respectively. Wiggins added nine points, five blocks and three assists while Amponsah chipped in eight points.

Kristen Steiner paced Stevenson with eight points and eight rebounds, both team-highs.

Marymount closes out the first half of the CAC season at home next Wednesday against Wesley at 6 p.m.
