Entering the 2024-25 school year, Bill Reno will serve as the goalkeeper coach for Marymount University men’s and women’s soccer programs. Before joining Marymount (where Reno coached in the spring of 2024,) Reno was the goalkeeper coach and recruiting coordinator for the women’s soccer teams at UMBC (2024-25) and George Washington University (2022-2024).
Reno's coaching journey began graduation where they served as Denton High School’s goalkeeper coach, working under Scott Heffley. Following that stint, Reno went on to work with Brian Dooley at Arkansas State in their first collegiate position, before heading south to Ouachita Baptist to coach under head coach Kevin Wright. At OBU, Reno recruited Erin Webster, who would later be named to the GAC All-Decade team in 2020.
Following a short stint with Texas Women’s University and Texas Spirit Soccer Club, and working alongside club director Sid Koury, Reno moved to Tennessee, working primarily as a goalkeeper coach in the Memphis area with Gareth Munro and Shawn Loth.
Building off their time in Memphis, Reno would join the University of Connecticut men’s team for their 2021 season, coaching future professional goalkeepers Jahmali Waite and Gianluca Catalano during Head Coach Ray Reid’s last season with the Huskies.
From 2022-2024, Reno transitioned into a larger role at George Washington University where head coach Michelle Demko brought Reno in to oversee GW’s recruiting efforts, in addition to working with the goalkeepers. Their last stop before Marymount was at UMBC, where Reno and assistant coach Hailey Williams were brought in for the 2024 season. Reno oversaw a strong core of goalkeepers that worked in tandem to defend the Retrievers’ net.
As a former goalkeeper, Reno played at Texas A&M and Harding University, setting school records at Harding. Through their time as a player and coach, Reno gained an “obsession with empowering goalkeepers to identify their own style, and to lean into their unique strengths.” Through this identification process, Reno emphasizes “the ability for players to work collaboratively with their teammates by utilizing their individual strengths”.
In addition to creating goalkeeper content online for ESPN, Paste Magazine, and Everybody Soccer, Reno has enjoyed varied stints with FC Cincinnati (first team video analyst), Houston Dynamo (freelance goalkeeping analytics), Camp Shutout, and Dynasty Goalkeeping.
Whenever Reno is not coaching, they enjoy watching The Great British Bake Off with his wife (Ali), walking their dogs (Jack Jack and Lola), and listening to punk music.
