Tommy Bennett

Tommy Bennett joined Marymount in April 2022 as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. He oversees the communication efforts for the entire Marymount University athletics department and is the primary media relations contact for the men's soccer, women's basketball, and wrestling programs.

Additionally, he handles all game contracts for the department and is the sport supervisor for Marymount's club cheer, club dance, and varsity flag football programs. Bennett also serves as the co-chair of the Hall of Fame and Saintspys Awards committees.

Over the summer and fall of 2023, Bennett spearheaded the campaign to revitalize the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame, incorporating a touchscreen display from TouchPros and branding elements from CSI Printing and Graphics to make the space in the Lee Center Atrium a more compelling experience for visitors.

Bennett also worked with colleague Jacob Brown on the Sidearm Sports website redesign of MarymountSaints.com and the subsequent launch of the official Marymount Athletics mobile app in the fall of 2022.

He comes to MU after spending the previous two years as the Associate Director of Athletics Communication at nearby American University.

While at AU, Bennett covered the first Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004 for American men's soccer in the spring of 2021. His work garnered coverage in both regional and national outlets. Additionally, Bennett organized the PR campaign for Sa'eed Nelson's pursuit of the AU men's basketball all-time scoring record in February 2020, pitching stories that resulted in coverage on radio, television, and print.

On top of working with men's soccer, women's soccer, and men's basketball, Bennett was also responsible for the department's multimedia initiatives as he led a team of four interns to boost creative content and video production across the entire athletics department.

He came back to American after spending two years as a graduate assistant for sports information at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. While at CMU, Bennett worked with over 20 varsity NAIA sports, including the two-time national champion men’s soccer team.

His work wasn't limited to central Missouri, as he traveled to Sioux City, Iowa, twice to cover women's volleyball at the NAIA National Tournament. Bennett also produced several pieces of NAIA-SIDA award-winning content, including Central Focus, a short-form interview series featuring student-athletes from every varsity sport on campus. The series took home third place in the Feature Video category.

Originally a native of Lancaster, Pa., Bennett graduated from American with a Broadcast Journalism degree in December 2017.

While in undergrad at AU, Bennett worked closely with the wrestling team, managing social media and producing all video content for the program.

After graduation, Bennett spent six months working in television as a sports videographer at Blue Ridge Communications News 11 in Ephrata, Pa., before the abrupt shutdown of the news department. He covered a variety of sports, ranging from bowling to lacrosse to softball.

Bennett is a member of the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM), and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

He currently resides in Arlington, Va., with his wife, Christianna, and their two cats, Dwight and Mose.Â
