  • 2024 Atlantic East Conference Coaching Staff of the Year
  • 2021 Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year (as an assistant)

Mike Cassidy enters his fourth season as the head baseball coach at Marymount in 2025. He has been a part of the staff since its inaugural season in 2014.

In 2024, Marymount baseball set a program record with 10 All-Conference performers as Cassidy and his staff received the Atlantic East Coaching Staff of the Year award. The Saints were ranked for the first time in program history, reaching as high as No. 22 in the national polls. Marymount won a program-record 31 games to earn the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic East Tournament before being eliminated by Cabrini. Five Saints were named to an All-Region team by the ABCA or D3baseball.com with two more Saints being named All-State by VaSID.

Marymount finished with a 22-19 mark in 2023 and earned six All-Conference selections. In his first season at the helm of the Marymount baseball program in 2022, Cassidy helped the team make history with a then-program record 29 wins. The Saints made a run for their second-straight Atlantic East title, but fell short in a tough battle with Immaculata in the championship round. He coached a consenus All-Region player in Alex Lemery and three All-Conference selections.

In his final year as an assistant, Cassidy helped lead the Saints to their first-ever Atlantic East Conference title and trip to the NCAA Division III Championships in 2021. He oversaw the growth of infielder Alex Lemery and Ryan Bergenhagen, who earned Co-Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors from the Atlantic East, respectively.

Cassidy has a wealth of coaching experience across the state of Virginia. In 2005, he was an assistant at his alma mater of Averett University. He returned to his Northern Virginia roots in 2008 to assistant coach five years at Bishop O’Connell High School, until moving for a season in 2013 to his high school, Lake Braddock Secondary School. Lake Braddock were Northern Region Champions and semifinalist of the Virginia High School League State Championships in 2013.

Beyond his coaching duties with Marymount, Cassidy is the co-founder and director of Metropolitan Baseball Academy in Lorton, Va. He was the founder and director of NOVA South Baseball Academy for four years and was the co-owner of Virginia Baseball Club Occoquan for six years before that. Cassidy has been the head coach of numerous highly competitive showcase teams including the Virginia Barnstormers, Virginia Shamrocks, and Metropolitan Senators.

Cassidy was an assistant coach alongside former Marymount head coach Frank Leoni in 2015 with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in the Futures Collegiate League, a team that was deemed regular-season champions. He was named the head coach of the elite summer-league squad for 2016 and 2017. In 2018, Mike was named the pitching coach of the FCA Braves in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League, where he served through the '18 and '19 seasons. In 2019, the FCA Braves pitching staff finished as the No. 2 staff in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League.

Playing his collegiate ball at Averett from 2001-04, Cassidy was a three-year starter in left field. While at Averett, he was a part of teams that collected 100-plus wins and was named 2003 Dixie Conference Champions. He received his Bachelor’s degree in sports management with a minor in coaching and officiating.

Cassidy is a native of Burke, Va., and attended Lake Braddock Secondary School as a three-sport athlete (baseball, football, and wrestling), graduating in 2000. He and his wife Ashley reside in Dumfries, Va.Â
