About Pablo Coto

Pablo Coto (Class of 1993) was a standout student-athlete who competed on the Marymount men’s basketball team in the early 1990s. During his senior season, he collapsed on the court and died during a home game against Goucher on Jan. 25, 1993. He was 21 years old.

During his time at MU, he was an All-Conference player and scored 1,102 career points. As a junior, he led the Saints to their first conference title with a win over Catholic. During that game, he was perfect, shooting 9-for-9 from the field and 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. Coto was inducted into the Marymount Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.

To honor his memory, the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament was created in 2013. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Pablo Coto Memorial Scholarship, which is open to all current Marymount students.
