ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount University women's softball team hosted round one of the Atlantic East Tournament this Saturday in hopes of advancing to day two and walking away with some wins.
Entering the tournament as the first seed, Marymount faced off against four seed opponent, Saint Elizabeth. After downing the Eagles in earlier conference play, the Saints kept the same energy and walked away with another win.
MARYMOUNT 6 SAINT ELIZABETH 4
- Gracie Himmelman led the offense with a standout 3-for-4 performance, scoring twice and adding a double to set the tone at the top of the lineup
- Haley Greer delivered in key moments, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored while handling the bulk of chances behind the plate
- Kaylee Atkins powered the middle of the order with two doubles and 2 RBIs, providing extra-base impact in the big inning
- Haylee Carpenter contributed a run and an RBI, working a walk and helping manufacture offense despite no hits
- Valeria Gutierrez De Oliveira helped keep pressure on offensively as part of the five-run fifth inning rally
- Samantha Richtol and Grace Gilbert added depth to the lineup, contributing to a balanced attack that produced nine hits overall
- Samantha Papp and Mady Archer supported the offensive push as Marymount strung together timely at-bats late in the game
- Bailey Demusz went the distance in the circle, tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts to secure the win
- The Saints capitalized on a five-run fifth inning and added insurance in the sixth to pull away, combining timely hitting with clean defense (0 errors)
The win over Saint Elizabeth set the Saints up for a face off against Neumann in game four, after Neumann defeated Marywood. The winner of the Marymount vs. Neumann game was looking for a slot in the final game tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
MARYMOUNT 7 NEUMANN 1
- Haley Greer led the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 day, scoring 3 runs and adding 2 doubles and an RBI to pace Marymount
- Kaylee Atkins delivered the biggest impact, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and 4 RBIs while scoring twice
- Gracie Himmelman crossed the plate twice and reached base multiple ways, helping set the tone at the top of the lineup
- Haylee Carpenter chipped in a hit and executed a sacrifice to move runners and keep innings alive
- Valeria Gutierrez De Oliveira contributed in the middle of the order with productive at-bats (team situational success with runners)
- Grace Gilbert added depth offensively as part of Marymounts 11-hit attack
- Ashleigh Mannion provided lineup support and helped maintain pressure through the middle innings
- Tara Corcoran contributed to the offensive flow and defensive stability at third
- Mady Archer and Samantha Papp added outfield support as Marymount controlled the game
- Morgan Maslock dominated in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just 4 hits and 1 run with 5 strikeouts
