ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount flag football took on AEC foes in their first outing at home on Sunday, winning against Penn State Schuylkill and rival Eastern at Bishop O'Connell Stadium.
With the wins, the Saints improve their overall record to 6-2 on the year, now sitting 3-1 in the AEC.

Marymount began the first quarter with a strong offensive drive, highlighted by a 21-yard pass from
Cara Vollmer to
Jesenia Velez, setting the tone early. Vollmer connected again with
Brianna Lee for a 21-yard gain, pushing the team towards the end zone. This effort culminated in a successful drive that capitalized on the team's momentum, ending with the Saints leading 6-0.
Later in the quarter, Vollmer's precise 19-yard touchdown pass to
Isabella Silvestri extended the Saints' advantage. A successful extra point attempt by Vollmer brought the score to 13-0. The quarter concluded with the Saints firmly in control, leading 14-0.
The Saints capitalized on their defensive prowess early in the second quarter with a succession of three QB flag pulls for a loss by
Victoria Johnson,
Samayah Barnes, and
Sakairah Sterling, pinning Penn State Schuylkill deep in its own territory. This defensive stand set up a drive that culminated in
Cara Vollmer's rushing touchdown at 6:30, extending the lead.
Later in the quarter, Vollmer connected with
Kaylah Barr for a key 8-yard gain, setting up her own 1-yard touchdown run, which was followed by a successful pass attempt. The quarter ended with the Saints leading 27-0, as their defense maintained the shutout against Penn State Schuylkill.
Midway through the third quarter, the Saints seized momentum when
Jesenia Velez returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown at the 11:00 mark.
Cara Vollmer successfully completed the pass attempt for the extra point. Later,
Dakotah Bright-Brubaker intercepted a pass and returned it 21 yards for another score with 2:30 remaining, and Vollmer again secured the extra point. The quarter concluded with the Saints extending their lead, finishing with a score of 48-0.
The Saints maintained their commanding lead throughout the final quarter, effectively securing the outcome with a flawless defensive performance. The fourth quarter saw no scoring from either team, as the Saints' defense held firm against any advances from Penn State Schuylkill. The game concluded with the Saints achieving a decisive victory, final score 48-0.

However, Marymount struggled to capitalize on this opportunity, with Aaliyah Thrash facing pressure and losing yards on subsequent plays. The first quarter concluded with both teams scoreless.
Marymount turned the momentum in the second quarter with a crucial interception by
Dakotah Bright-Brubaker at their own goal line, returning it 14 yards and halting Eastern's scoring opportunity. Vollmer then orchestrated an effective drive, capping it with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Barr with just four seconds remaining in the quarter. Marymount controlled the third quarter with a solid defensive performance, highlighted by a flag pull for a 12-yard loss on Eastern's Moyet.
Jesenia Velez showcased versatility with a crucial 16-yard rush, followed by a 7-yard pass to Barr, maintaining offensive pressure. Although Eastern attempted to counter, the Saints' defense consistently stifled its advances, resulting in negative yardage for much of the quarter. The quarter concluded with Marymount leading 12-0, ensuring its dominant position.
Marymount began the fourth quarter with a strategic drive, highlighted by Velez's 11-yard rush to advance the ball to the Marymount 37-yard line. This momentum was bolstered by a strong defensive stand that forced Eastern into a series of negative plays, including a 38-yard loss on an Eastern rush. Despite Eastern's attempts to recover, the Saints' defense held firm, preventing any scoring opportunities. The quarter concluded with Marymount maintaining a commanding lead, securing a 25-0 victory as the game ended.
