NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Marymount fell to Chris. Newport 3-0 on Friday, with set scores of 17-25, 15-25 and 19-25.
The lost pushed the Saints' record to 9-8 overall, with Atlantic East play beginning next week.

Chris. Newport moved ahead 8-2 early in the opening set behind Simara Alexander's serving run, which included three aces, while
Eliana Knaub had the Saints' first kill. After Chris. Newport pushed the margin to 14-6, the Saints worked back with kills from
Layla Scott,
Sabrina Schoeberlein and
Elizabeth Stackpole, trimming the deficit to 17-15. Chris. Newport answered with five straight points, including two Jasmine Williams kills and a Lauren Hobbs ace, and after the Saints pulled two points back, Chris. Newport closed the set with the final three points for a 25-17 win.
Chris. Newport opened the second set with three straight points, including two kills by Alli Pratt, and the Saints were still trying to settle in when CNU pushed the margin to 9-2 behind an Avery Hanly kill and a string of Saints attack errors. The Saints chipped back with a
Brigid Donahue kill, an
Emerson Aber ace and a Knaub kill to get within 15-9, but CNU answered with the next four points to move ahead 19-9. The Saints put together a late three-point stretch, capped by a Stackpole kill from
Braelyn Ottolini that made it 22-14, before CNU took three of the final four points to close the set 25-15.
The third set stayed within a point through Jasmine Williams' ace that put Chris. Newport ahead 8-7, and the Saints answered by taking five of the next six points behind
Emerson Aber's ace and
Eliana Knaub's kill to move in front 12-9. Chris. Newport pulled even at 13-13 on consecutive Saints attack errors, but
Braelyn Ottolini's ace,
Sabrina Schoeberlein's kill and
Caylee Walsh's ace helped the Saints go back ahead 17-15. Chris. Newport then scored five straight, using kills from Avery Hanly and Sylvia Wargolet, a block by Carley Coghill and Williams, and a Hanly ace to move ahead 20-17. The Saints got back within 20-18 and 23-19, but Chris. Newport moved to 24-19 on an Aber service error and finished the 25-19 set on Wargolet's kill from Lanie Goff.

- The Saints open up Atlantic East Conferene play next week, heading to Hackettstown, N.J., to face Centenary University on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
