KERRVILLE, Texas. -- Everything is bigger in Texas- even the wins. This Monday, the Saints downed Schreiner University with a 3-0 win. The game marks Marymount's second game in Texas and fifth game of the season.
The win gives the Saints a record of 2-1-2.
NOTABLE
- Jefferson Lopez Coreas secured a hat-trick in the first 20 minutes of the game, the quickest to achieve that feat in Marymount men's soccer history. .
- Midfielder Merlin Torres rattled off three shots and assisted one of Coreas' goals.
- Off the bench, Jeremy Maradiaga and Christian Bonilla each had a shot.
- Saints offense dominated with nine shots, six of which were on target.
- Keeper Bayron Banegas secured the Saint shutout with two saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints got straight to work, with Merlin Torres making his first shot attempt in minute three.
- Up next, Coreas took a shot on target in the fifth minute, which it was saved by the keeper.
- Within ten minutes of the initial whistle, the ball made its way to the back of the net with a goal by Jefferson Lopez Coreas in the seventh minute, assisted by Matthew Guzman-Veizaga.
- About five minutes later, Jefferson Lopez Coreas launched another rocket, giving the Saints a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute.
- By minute 19, Jefferson Lopez Coreas upped the score to 3-0, this time with an assist by Franklin Cruz-Reyes.
- The Saints went into halftime with a scoreboard reading 3-0.
- The second half opened with the same aggressive offense, with Merlin Torres firing off a shot in the 48th minute.
- Merlin Torres continued to apply the pressure with a shot on goal in the 57th minute.
- By the 90th minute, the Saints took home the W with a final score of 3-0.
