WINCHESTER, Va. -- Marymount baseball claimed their second Atlantic East Conference Championship on Saturday, first since 2021, in decisive fashion over the Neumann Knights to avenge the heartbreak just a year prior. 

The Saints will head to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history next weekend, looking to maintain their momentum after going perfect in the AEC Tournament.

NOTABLE

• This is the first AEC Title for the Saints since 2021.
• Jack McCarthy was named the Tournament MVP.
• Nick Trapanese earned the Elite 20 Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the Championship site.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• From the start, the Saints were on full throttle at the plate, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding early lead.
• Kevin Knoess, Daniel Fernandez, and Jack McCarthy each shot two-RBI singles up the middle to highlight the inning, with Bobby Leitzel and Quincy Via both adding RBI hits to help the Marymount gain the early advantage.
• In the bottom of the third, McCarthy added on, hitting a towering home run over the left field wall to plate three more runs for the Saints. He went on to drive in the Saints lone other run in the bottom of the fifth to give Marymount a 13-0 lead.
• Neumann put two across in the top of the sixth via a two-run home run, but that was all the Knights could muster as starter Parker Casselberry would shut down the offense the rest of the way.
• Casselberry threw the complete game, allowing just the two runs with five total strikeouts to earn the Championship win on the mound.
• McCarthy ended the day going 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in six total RBI for the Saints.
• Via went a perfect 4-4 with an RBI out of the lead off spot, adding three stolen bases.
• Ryan Cuadros added a double for the Saints.
• Knoess and Fernandez both had two RBI.
