Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Secures AEC Semifinal Victory

Arlington, VA. – Marymount women's lacrosse defeated Gwynedd Mercy 25-7 in the Atlantic East Conference Semifinals, dominating in the attack and overwhelming the Griffins' defense.

This brings their record to 16-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints wasted no time in finding the back of the net, scoring first against the Griffins. The first goal was scored by Arayla Garcia and assisted by Natalia Ortiz. The first goal of the game was quickly followed by three more Marymount goals score by A. Garcia assisted by Riley Love, Ortiz assisted by Taylor Chepren, and Bailey Gehler assisted by Love. Gwynedd fought back with two goals against Marymount. The Saints continued in the lead adding five additional goals before the end of the first quarter. The goals were accredited to Gehler from two free position shots, Ortiz assisted by A. Garcia, Tess Valentino assisted by Love, and Chepren assisted by Valentino. The Griffins added one more goal in the first to end the quarter 9-3.
  • Both teams stayed active in the game but Marymount continued to surpass the Griffins in the attack. Ella Baker scored first in the second quarter with an assist from Chepren. The Saints' defense pushed back the Griffins' attempts at goal, giving the Saints' attack further opportunities at advancing the lead. Six additional goals were scored by Marymount in the second quarter. The points were earned from a goal from A. Garcia at a free position, A. Garcia during a man down play, Ella Baker assisted by Love, Love with no assist, Jillian Blair with no assist, and Chepren with no assist. The half ended with a score of 16-5.
  • The points kept rolling in for the Saints in the second half. After a successful draw control from Gehler, Valentino scored the first goal of the half off of a pass from Baker. Keeping the ball in the attacking half, three quick goals were scored by the Saints. Chepren recovered the ball from a shot off the post and passed to Baker who scored. Valentino caused a turn over and created a goal opportunity that was capitalized on by Baker who was assisted by Chepren. Abby Dunn won the draw control and put the ball in the attacking third for Carmella Garcia to score from an assist from Baker. Gwynedd had two consecutive goals before Marymount finished the quarter with one more goal by Kaylee Heath who was assisted by Love.
  • Ortiz opened the fourth quarter with a caused turnover to prevent an attack by the Griffins. Valentino scored first in the fourth quarter off a pass from Love. The Saints denied the Griffins any goals in the fourth quarter and ended out the game with three final goals. The goals were earned by Valentino assisted by Gehler, Mackenzie Morrissette unassisted, and Heath assisted by Brooke Bretney. The game ended in a victory for the Saints with a score of 25-7.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Ella Baker, Tess Valentino, and Arayla Garcia each had four goals. Riley love had six assists.
UP NEXT
  • The Saints' will compete in the conference tournament Championship on Saturday May 3rd. The Championship will take place at Long Bridge Park.
