Softball Falls to the Vixens

Sweet Briar, VA- Marymount battled against the Vixens for a hard-fought loss in game one and were unable to recover in game two. Game one was lost 4-5 and game two was lost 0-13.

After games twenty and twenty-one, the Saints hold a record of 6-16.

GAME ONE: 4-5
  • The Saints batted first against the Vixens. No hits were earned by the Saints. Marymount's at bat was ended by a grounded out to the pitcher, a pop up to short stop, and a grounded out to first. The Vixens gained the early lead in the game, putting two runs on the board. The Saints earned the put outs in the inning with a strikeout from the circle, an out at first, and a throw out at third by the catcher and third base positions.
  • The second inning started with a single by Kaylynn Johnson to left field and a walk by the circle that placed Kaylee Atkins on first while advancing Johnson to second. Haley Greer reached first on a fielder's choice that put out Johnson and moved Atkins to second. The Saints had no runs in the second and left two runners on base after a final out from a fielder's choice. In the field, the Saints were eager to return to the plate and sent each of the three Vixen batters back to the dug out with no hits. The put outs were earned from a grounded out to third and two strikeouts from the circle.
  • Jenna Jew began on first at the top of the third from a walk from the circle. Leila Hernandez singled to right field and Jew continued to second. Kammie Brown gained a place on first from a fielder's choice that put out Jew and sent Hernandez to second. Samantha Cinotti singled next to right field, sending Brown to second and Hernandez to third. The first run for the Saints was scored from a fielder's choice hit by Johnson that resulted in no outs due to an error. The at bat by Johnson advanced Cinotti to second, Brown to third, and Hernandez home to score. Atkins's at bat gained her a place at first, put Johnson out at second, advanced Cinotti to third and scored Brown. Greer continued the scoring streak with a single to center field that advanced all runners and scored Cinotti, overtaking the lead 3-2. The at bat ended with two runners left on base. The Vixens evened the score by adding one run in the bottom of the third. The Saints gained the put outs in the field from a fly ball to center field, a grounded out to first, and a lined out to third. The inning ended with an even score 3-3.
  • The fourth at bat for Marymount saw no hits and no added runs. The Saints kept the game even with the Vixens also denying any additional hits or runs. The score remained 3-3 at the end of the fourth.
  • Atkins was first to make it on base in the fifth, singling to center field. Tara Corcoran pinch ran for Atkins. Greer grounded out but advanced Corcoran to second. Hailey Leamer reached first on an error while Corcoran advanced to third. Corcoran scored on a passed ball, breaking the tie. One runner was left on base at the end of the at bat. Sweet Briar gained two runs to overtake the Saints' lead. The Saints gained the outs in the field from two fly balls to left field and a pop up to short stop.
  • The Saints added one hit by Cinotti who singled to right field, but were unable to score any runs. Marymount earned a quick three up three down in the field. The outs were gained from a fly ball to left field, a grounded out to short stop, and a grounded out to first. The game ended after the top of the seventh when Marymount was unable to earn any hits or runs to beat the Vixens lead. The game ended with a score of 4-5.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Leila Hernandez, Kammie Brown, Samantha Cinotti, and Tara Corcoran all scored one run for the Saints. Cinotti was the top hitter for the Saints with two hits. Hernandez, Kaylynn Johnson, and Haley Greer all tied for put outs in the game, each earning three. Bailey Demusz pitched three strikeouts in the game.
GAME TWO: 0-13
  • Marymount started the first inning at the plate, gaining one hit from Cinotti who singled to left field. The Saints left one on base at the end of the at bat. The Saints' batters were put out from a grounded out to the pitcher, a strikeout, and a grounded out to third. The Vixens took the lead in the first with four runs made. The Saints gained the put outs in the field against the Vixens from a foul out to first, a grounded out to second and a fly ball to right field. The inning ended with a score of 0-4.
  • The Saints had one hit in their second at bat. The hit was made by Greer who singled to short stop. Marymount was put out with two fly balls to left field and a fly ball out to right field. Sweet Briar further rallied scoring six runs in the second inning. The Saints earned the put outs in the field from a fly ball to center field, a fielder's choice throw out at second, and a fly ball to left field. The score was 0-10 at the end of the second.
  • Marymount added two hits to their stats in the third. The hits were earned by Hernandez and Brown who both hit singles. The Saints at bat ended with a grounded out to short stop, a fly ball to right field, and a fly ball to left field. The Saints kept the Vixens from adding any runs in the third. The put outs were gained by the Saints in the field from an out at third, a grounded out to third, and a fly ball to right field.
  • The Saints ended the game with no additional hits and no runs. The Vixens added three final runs to end the game. The ending score was 0-13.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Leila Hernandez, Kammie Brown, Samantha Cinotti, and Haley Greer each earned one hit. Samantha Papp led the Saints in put outs with four earned outs.

  • The Saints will return home on Saturday April 5th for a doubleheader matchup against Marywood University. The start times are 1pm and 3pm at Barcroft Park.
