Men's Volleyball Splits Day at Hood

Frederick, Md. -- Marymount men's volleyball picked up a victory over Hood College this Saturday, winning 3-1 over the Blazers. In the Saints competition against Misericordia University, they fell short 3-1.


MARYMOUNT 3 - HOOD 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As a team, the Saints dominated in points, kills, aces, assists, and digs.
  • The Saints boasted 10 aces. 
  • Jonathan Pickering led both teams in the most amount of kills, boasting 15. 
  • Notably, Carter Gresham led the team with 34 assists, exactly double Hood's team leader in this same category. 
  • The three highest serving Saints with aces were Ethan Frank (3), Carter Gresham(2), and Jonathan Pickering (2).
  • In the first set, the Saints picked up the first point with a kill by Seth Richards
  • Throughout the first set, the teams stayed neck-in-neck, with neither team picking up over a three point lead. 
  • The first set ended in favor of Marymount, with a final score of 25-23. 
  • In the second set, the Saints started off strong with a 5-1 lead. 
  • A kill and service ace by Jonathan Pickering followed by three more Marymount kills set the Saints on fire in set two. 
  • Set two finished with the Saints leading 25-21 over the Blazers.
  • The third quarter saw a similar fight by the Saints, who ultimately fell short by only two points. 
  • In the fourth and final set, the Saints gained a four point lead within the first 10 serves. 
  • A service ace by Ethan Frank gave Marymount a 7-4 advantage in the final set. 
  • The fourth set was won with a Marymount kill by Seth Richards
MARYMOUNT 1 - MISERICORDIA 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The team led this match in kills (54) and assists (49)
  • Diego Pena put on quite the performance in this matchup, with 19 kills.
  • Evan Cao delivered 44 assists, tied for the most in the match. 
  • With digs, Evan Cao led the team and match with seven. 
  • In the first set, Marymount stayed in the match, and took the lead with a kill by Luke Pogue
  • The first set closed in favor of Misericordia, with a final score of 25-17.
  • A kill from Esteban Jauregui boasted the Saints to a 7-4 lead. 
  • Ethan Li's kill kept the Saints in the lead. 
  • Despite a great performance in the second set, the Saints fell short 25-20.
  • The grit came out in the third set, and Marymount secured a three point victory of 25-23. 
  • Standing at 1-2, Marymount trailed for the majority of the fourth set until two kills by Diego Pena tied up the game 24-24. 
  • These kills were answered by Misericordia, and this set closed out 26-24. 
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will take the trip to Owings Mills, Maryland this Tuesday to face off against Stevenson University. 
  • The match takes place at 6:00 PM.
