ARLINGTON, Va. -- Waiting for the shift in momentum, Marymount women's basketball wasn't able to get over the hump Wednesday evening in Converse Family Fieldhouse.
Falling 59-51 against the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy, the Saints drop to 4-11 overall on the season, now 1-2 in the AEC.
NOTABLE
- Samantha Bulik put up a team-high 14 points in the loss with six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
- Kaylah Barr had 10 on the night with five assists and two boards.
- Ava Achtyl had six rebounds and five points with a block.
- Cara Vollmer posted six off of the bench for the Saints.
- Jaylah Thompson collected five points with four rebounds, two steals, and a block.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Falling into a 13-3 hole, Kelly Ceroll looked to shift the tide, sinking a jumper to cut into the lead.
- A pair of free throws from Vollmer put the Saints within eight in the first quarter.
- Bulik sank a three with under nine minutes in the second quarter, looking to spark some life into the Marymount offense.
- A jumper from Grace Damato cut the lead down to four with under five minutes left in the half.
- Thompson sank a three in the final seconds of the half to put the deficit at just three points heading into the locker room.
- With the Griffins maintaining their lead, the lead was cut down to five with a fast break from Barr.
- Bulik put in the last bucket for Marymount, followed by a Griffins score, to head into the final quarter down by seven.
- The Griffins held onto their lead down the stretch to nab the game from the home Saints.
