The Saints Get Stung by the Hornets

Box Score Lynchburg, VA– Marymount Women's Soccer takes a loss away from home against Lynchburg University.

This brings the Saints' record to 1-4-1 with no losses conceded at home.  

NOTABLE
  • Tonic, Marissa took control of the start of the game, taking the first shot of the match in the 4th minute. The shot was blocked by the Hornets before it could cross the goal line. Tonic took a second shot in the 8th minute of the first half that missed just wide of the goal.
  • Alvarado, Nicole had the first shot of the second half during the 50th minute. The shot was blocked by the Hornets' defense.
  • Lanzas, Eliana had an attempt at goal in the 51st minute of the game. The shot was saved by the Hornets' keeper.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marymount's Tonic pushed to claim the first shot of the game but was blocked in her attempt for the first goal.
  • Both teams played aggressive, gaining multiple fouls on each side in the first ten minutes of the first half.
  • The Saints' defense combated the efforts made by the Hornets in the first half by forcing shots both wide and high. The few shots that were not forced off goal during the first half were saved by Mockenhaupt.
  • Starting the second half, the Saints had two more opportunities at goal that failed to make it past the goal line.
  • The Hornets' offense kept on pressing in the second half and were finally able to make ground with their continued pressure against the Saints' defense. The Hornets' scored 3 goals in the second half to take the win against the Saints
UP NEXT
  • Marymount's next game will be home on Sept. 16th for a match against Catholic University at Long Bridge Park with a start time at 3pm.
