ARLINGTON – Marymount men's soccer fell to another tough opponent on Sunday afternoon after Hampden-Sydney scored the game's final three goals in a 3-1 victory at Long Bridge Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jefferson Lopez Coreas scored his first career goal as a Saint in the 10th minute after ripping a shot past the keeper.
- In the 27th minute, Hampden-Sydney's pressing forwards intercepted an outlet pass and fired a shot into an empty net for the equalizer.
- The Tigers added a tally in the 36th minute to take the lead for good.
- In the second half, MU placed three shots on goal but couldn't find the tying goal.
- Over a 66-second stretch late in the second half, Bayron Banegas stopped four consecutive shots to keep Marymount within striking distance.
- On a corner kick after Banegas' final save of the stretch, Marymount was credited with a handball in the box leading to a penalty kick goal for the Tigers and a 3-1 lead in the 71st minute.
HEAR FROM COACH KALIN
- "Great start, then downhill. We have to be better at in-game adjustments and sticking to how we play. We are not strong enough mentally yet and that is impacting our performance. We have work to do, but I have confidence in the team."
UP NEXT
- Marymount continues a busy stretch to start the season with a trip to Pennsylvania to take on Juniata on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
- The Saints will return to Long Bridge Park on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 PM for SYC Night.
