GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. --
Jack Williams continued to etch his name in the Marymount men's lacrosse record book as the Saints avenged an earlier-season loss to Gwynedd Mercy by dispatching the Griffins in the Atlantic East semifinals, 18-8.
NOTABLE
- With three goals and three assists on Wednesday, Williams now sits at 224 career points and surpassed assistant coach Clark Akers (220) for the No. 1 spot on Marymount's all-time points list.
- Marymount has now advanced to the conference championship game for the third season in a row. It's also the second season in a row that MU has avenged an earlier-season loss to Gwynedd Mercy in the conference semifinals.
- The Saints have now won five games in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount scored the game's first five goals and held a 7-2 lead at halftime.
- The Saints continued to put the pressure on and outscored Gwynedd 8-3 in the third quarter to hold a 16-5 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
- Marymount never let Gwynedd back into the game and finished strong with an 18-8 win.
- Williams, Bryan Maguire, Gavin Taylorson, and Ian Fructuoso all had three goals on the day as eight different Saints found the back of the net.
- As a team, Marymount won 21-of-28 faceoffs, led by Cameron Glass going 15-of-19 in the circle.
- Jacob Brooks stopped 13 shots in the cage to earn the victory.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will take on the winner of No. 1 seed Cabrini and No. 5 seed Neumann in the Atlantic East Championship. At press time, Cabrini led Neumann 16-4 at halftime.
