HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Marymount baseball faltered in game one of their three-game set with Centenary on Friday afternoon, 5-4, despite a comeback attempt in their final at-bat.
The Saints push their record to 26-6 overall on the year, now 11-2 in Atlantic East play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cyclones put up a single run in the first inning to take an early lead.
- Jonathan McMath led off the top of the second with a double, and after advancing to third, scored on a wild pitch to even up the tally.
- Quincy Via drove in a run via the sacrifice fly in the third to give Marymount their first lead of the day.
- After Centenary tied up the contest, Via struck again, knocking his second home run of the season to give the Saints the lead back.
- The Cyclones took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, then added on in the next inning to take a two-run lead into the top of the ninth.
- The Saints got cooking in the top of the ninth. With one away, Robert Moffett shot a single to right center, followed by Jordan Dickson reaching after being hit by a pitch. After a double steal to put two men in scoring position, Via collected his third RBI of the day with another sacrifice fly, but Bobby Leitzel flew out to end the game.
- David Muirhead showed strong on the mound, going 6.1 innings of work with a strikeout, allowing just one earned run.
UP NEXT
- Marymount will look to bounce back tomorrow, finishing out the series on the road at Centenary with first pitch set for 12 PM.
