SCRANTON, Pa. – A slow start doomed Marymount women's basketball on Friday evening against Ohio Northern as the Saints fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 62-38.
NOTABLE
- Symantha Shackelford finished with 11 points, standing alone in fifth place on Marymount's all-time scoring list to close her career (1,377 points).
- Chandler Eddleton finished with 13 points and passed Ashlee Courter and Kate Jarvis for sole possession of seventh place on Marymount's all-time scoring list (1,291 points).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount fell behind 10-0 through the first six minutes of action after a slow start.
- Shackelford hit a long two to get Marymount on the board with 3:53 left in the first quarter.
- Shackelford was the only Saint to score in the first quarter as Marymount trailed 24-6 after the first 10 minutes.
- To open the second quarter, Terra Dzambo (8 points) drained two long shots in a row to get Marymount within 27-13 with 7:32 left in the half.
- Despite the momentum, Marymount struggled to get any closer in the second quarter and ultimately went into halftime trailing, 34-17.
- The shooting struggles continued in the third quarter as Ohio Northern extended the lead to 54-26 after 30 minutes of action.
- Marymount finishes its season with a 22-6 mark, including 10-0 in conference action.
