ARLINGTON -- A seventh-minute goal by first-year
Erick Shoetter-Rojas propelled Marymount men's soccer on its way to a 1-1 draw against previously unbeaten Hampden-Sydney on a hot Wednesday evening at Long Bridge Park.
NOTABLE
- Shoetter-Roja's goal was the first of his career in just his third appearance for the Saints.
- Tony Martinez was credited with his first assist in a Saints uniform after transferring from Radford.
- The tally marks the first time this season Marymount found the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount came out of the gate with strong pressure, drawing a third-minute corner kick before Shoetter found the back of the net with a nice curling shot to the right side.
- Martinez started the play with a nice pass in the box.
- MU outshot Hampden-Sydney 7-4 in the first half, with Leonardo Torres placing two shots on target.
- The Tigers responded in the second half with a 77th-minute equalizer. Hampden-Sydney found the back of the net after following up an initial shot and slipping the ball past the last line of defense.
- Torres fired off one last attempt in the final minute that sailed wide.

UP NEXT
- Marymount continues its busy start to the season with a trip to Hampton Roads this weekend.
- The Saints will take on Christopher Newport on Saturday before closing the trip against Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.
- MU returns to Long Bridge Park on Friday, Sept. 15 to host Notre Dame (Md.) at 4 PM.
