Men's Lacrosse Advances to AEC Championship

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Marymount men's lacrosse advanced to the Atlantic East Championship with a gutsy 11-10 win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday evening in the semifinals.

It will be a rematch in the championship matchup, as the Saints will face off against top-seeded Cabrini on Saturday.

  • Jack Williams continued to dish out the assists, notching four on the night, while adding a pair of ground balls.

  • Paul Vey sank three goals with a ground ball off of the bench for MU.

How It Happened
  • It was Vey who got the scoring going in the affair, sinking the shot from the pass from Goo to put the Saints up 1-0 early.
  • After a pair of Griffins goals, Goo evened up the tally unassisted to put the score at 2-2 with just over five minutes left to play in the first quarter.
  • The two teams traded goals to end out the first quarter of play to go into the second quarter with Gwynedd-Mercy up by one.
  • The Saints outscored the Griffins 3-1 in the second quarter, highlighted by two Maguire goals, to head into intermission up 6-5.
  • It was even in the third, as the two teams each put two in the net. Williams found Maguire with an open look to give the Saints the lead back to round out the scoring and send the matchup into its final quarter.
  • Connolly sank back-to-back goals for the Saints in the fourth to give the Saints a two-goal lead.
  • After the Griffins sank two of their own to even up the score, Vey came through, finding the pass from Williams to give the Saints their final lead of the game, sending them to the well-fought win.
