GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Finding itself trailing by four in the fourth quarter, Marymount men's lacrosse rallied to force overtime, but Gwynedd Mercy scored the game-winner with 1:13 left in the first overtime period to win 17-16 on Wednesday evening.
NOTABLE
- Jack Williams led the way offensively with five goals and three assists for eight points.
- Chris Bochilo also fired off four goals.
- Paul Vey (six) and Noah Hill (five) both set career-highs for ground balls.
- Marymount went 5-of-6 on extra man opportunities while holding the Griffins to 2-of-7 on EMOs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Griffins struck first before Jack Williams scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead.
- The two sides traded tallies the rest of the first quarter and it ended in a 4-4 tie after the first 15 minutes.
- Gwynedd Mercy took control in the second half with five straight goals before Bochilo scored a man-up goal right before halftime as MU went into halftime trailing, 9-5.
- The Saints scored two more man-up goals vefore Vey added another tally to bring Marymount within one at 9-8.
- After Sebastian Radovic cut the deficit to 11-10, Gwynedd responded with another goal to make it 12-10 after three quarters.
- With 9:18 remaining in the game, the Griffins led 16-12.
- Marymount responded with three goals in 2:27 to get within a goal once again.
- The equalizer finally came with 1:12 remaining as Vey found the back of the net to make it 16-16.
- In overtime, Marymount had the first chance but Vey's shot went wide.
- After a timeout, Gwynedd found the back of the net with 1:13 left in the first overtime to clinch the conference win.
