Late Goal Pushes Women's Lacrosse Past Knights

ARLINGTON, Va. - A tough battle was ultimately won by the Saints women's lacrosse team, taking down the visiting Neumann Knights, 10-9. 

MU earned their 10th win of the season with the victory, pushing their overall record to 10-5, now sitting at 3-1 in Atlantic East action.

Notable
  • Megan Edens was the star in the contest, earning a line of two goals with eight draw controls and a ground ball. Her second goal was the deciding factor, converting the free position shot into the winning goal in the final seconds.
  • Hannah Smith earned the win in the goal, her 10th of the year, while hitting the century mark for career saves. After seven on the day, she now has 104 in her young career.
  • Taylor Chepren had two goals and two ground balls in the win.
  • Jillian Blair put two in the net for the Saints in the contest, adding a draw control and two ground balls. 
  • Arayla Garcia had a goal and two draw controls.
  • Emily Peters notched an assist and three ground balls.
  • Riley Love, Tess Valentino, and Kaleigh Dunham each added a goal.
  • On the defensive end, Ella Baker, Abby Dunn, and Peyton Samson each caused a turnover.
How It Happened
  • Marymount was the first to get on the board, sinking back-to-back shots from Valentino and Garcia to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • After a Neumann goal, Edens and Blair each put one in the net to give the Saints a 4-1 lead after the first quarter of play.
  • The Knights sank three in a row to tie up the tally, but the Saints answered with three of their own, capped off by Dunham sinking an unassisted goal to head into halftime up 7-4.
  • Neumann outscored the Saints 4-2 in the third quarter to send the game into the final quarter with Marymount holding to a one-goal lead.
  • After a defensive majority of the fourth quarter, the Knights tied up the game in the final minutes at 9-9.
  • With under a minute to play, Edens earned the free position attempt for the Saints. She moved around the Knights defense and sank the free position goal to give the Saints the decisive goal they needed, sending them to the well-earned AEC win.

  • Marymount will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Cabrini for an AEC matchup against the Cavaliers.
