FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Despite having a chance to tie in the final seconds, Marymount men's basketball couldn't quite finish on Saturday and fell to Mary Washington in a defensive battle, 52-49.
NOTABLE
- Marcus Stubbs led all scorers with 17 points and went 5-of-11 from beyond the arc.
- CJ Highsmith Jr. also finished in double-figures with 12 points on 5-of-7 from the field.
- As a team, Marymount made seven 3-pointers compared to one triple for the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount scored the first six points of the game to jump out to an early lead.
- A triple from Marcus Stubbs with 5:44 left in the first half gave Marymount a five-point lead at 20-15.
- Mary Washington responded with a 10-2 run to close the half with a 25-22 advantage.
- Early in the second half, UMW maintained control and held its largest lead of the day at 38-30 with 11:09 to play.
- The Saints kept inching back and finally tied on another trey from Stubbs with 1:54 remaining.
- Finding itself trailing by two with seven seconds remaining, Marymount went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line and then couldn't generate another scoring opportunity to fall, 52-49.

- Marymount returns to Converse Family Fieldhouse to host Arcadia on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 6 PM.
