LYNCHBURG, Va. - Marymount men's basketball erased deficit after deficit in their opening game of the Wayne Profitt Classic against Randolph College on Tuesday afternoon, ultimately falling by the game's final tally of 63-59.
The Saints fall back down to the even .500 mark with a chance to get back over tomorrow on the same court.Â
NOTABLE
- Marcus Stubbs led the scoring for the Saints with 13 points, adding four boards, a block, and a steal.Â
- Wyatt Hockenberry had nine on the afternoon, shooting 4-of-7 from the floor.Â
- Jack Bifano led the Saints on the glass with seven total rebounds, putting up five points to add on.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams opened up the game with a pair of threes, with the Saints following that up with a quick run to take an early 7-3 lead.
- Down 15-to-9, the Saints answered with a 7-0 run to retake the lead.
- With just over six minutes left in the half, Marcus Beckett found the pass from Montell Cooper to get the Saints within one.Â
- The WildCats sank a three in the final seconds to take a five point lead into the half.
- Randolph opened the second half of play with an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 11.Â
- The Saints put up six unanswered to get back within five with 15 minutes left to play.Â
- A layup from Beckett gave MU the lead again with just under six minutes left to play.Â
- Randolph took advantage down the stretch, ultimately handing the Saints the hard-fought loss.
