BALTIMORE, Md. - Marymount men's basketball opened up their 2023-24 trek on Wednesday evening on the road at #12 Johns Hopkins.
The Saints held strong with the Blue Jays, but ultimately fell by a the game's final tally of 86-76 despite a valiant comeback effort down the stretch.Â
NOTABLE
- Montell Cooper led the scoring for the Saints, dropping 21 total points on the night, going 10-of-16 from the floor. He added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals to his credit.Â
- Marcus Stubbs added 12 in the contest with a pair of steals.Â
- Jack Bifano led the Saints on the glass, pulling down six rebounds. He added eight points to his line in the loss.Â
- Wyatt Hockenberry had 10 points in the opener with a pair of assists and four rebounds.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints opened up the season hot, going on a quick 7-2 run capped off by a jumper from Cooper to take the early lead in the contest.
- After the Blue Jays took an 11-to-9 lead, the Saints answered with a two-pointer from Jack Farrelly followed by a fast break steal and dunk from CJ Highsmith Jr..
- Down the stretch, the two teams continued to trade shots to take the game into the half with Johns Hopkins holding a slim lead, 33-31.
- The Blue Jays opened the second half of play with a 9-0 run to take a sizable lead, with Stubbs breaking through to end the Saints early half drought to get back scoring.
- JHU continued to put offensive pressure on the Saints and before long, MU was staring at a 70-48 deficit to overcome.Â
- The Saints continued to fight, going on a strong 14-0 run to put the game within eight. Stubbs finished off the run with a three from Cooper.
- The Blue Jays found their stride again in the final minutes of the game, ultimately taking the contest by its final score of 86-76.

- Marymount will hit the road again this weekend, heading back north to the Penn State Harrisburg Classic.
- They will open play Saturday evening against the hosting team at 4 PM.
