ARLINGTON -- Claire Smith continued her impressive start to the season as Marymount women's basketball grinded out a tough 57-48 victory over Washington College on Tuesday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Smith led the Saints with 15 points and went 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. 
• As a team, Marymount went 19-of-23 from the charity stripe. 
• Despite only managing four points in the fourth quarter, strong team defense and timely three-point shooting (6-of-16 from beyond the arc) allowed Marymount to withstand the Shorewomen comeback in the final 10 minutes. 
• The Saints started strong and led by as many as nine in the first quarter. 
• Marymount extended its lead to as many as 21 in an impressive second quarter. The Saints went into the locker room with a 33-17 lead. 
• A three-pointer from Ally Vezendy right before the third quarter ended gave MU a 53-34 lead heading into the final frame. 
• MU was held without a point for the first five minutes of the fourth and only managed one field goal in the frame. 
• Washington couldn't quite string together enough offense as Marymount held on for the 57-48 victory. 
• Symantha Shackelford was the other double-digit scorer, chipping in with 11 points. 
• 15 Saints saw the floor in the win.

• Marymount will close out its four-game homestand with a Sunday afternoon matchup against Gallaudet on Nov. 26.
