ASTON, Pa. – The quest for an Atlantic East championship repeat is done for Marymount men's soccer as the Saints fell in an overtime nailbiter to No. 1 seed Neumann on Wednesday night, 2-1. Marymount ends its season with a 10-7-3 mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neumann got on the board first with a goal from Eddie Proud in the 15th minute.
- Despite an 8-7 advantage in shots, Marymount went into halftime trailing, 1-0.
- In the second half, Jesus Rios found the equalizer for the Saints with a strike in the 60th minute. Rios scored for the first time since Nov. 2, 2019.
- In the 67th minute, Marymount was forced to play with 10 men after two yellow cards in under five minutes.
- Despite the disadvantage, the Saints were able to rip two shots on target down the stretch but both were saved.
- In extra time, Neumann had a 5-2 shots advantage and found the game-winner in the 105th minute.
- Marymount had two shots in the final minutes but couldn't force penalty kicks.
- In a physical contest, both sides combined for 45 fouls and eight total cards.
