MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Saints men's volleyball team hit the road again on Wednesday evening, traveling to #10 Messiah for an early-season non-conference matchup.
Marymount ultimately fell in the match 3-1 to fall to 0-2 in the young season as they continue to match up against strong opponents.
Notable
- Devon Robinson led the Saints attack on the night, putting down 14 kills with a .385 hitting percentage. He powered two block assists in the contest.
- Diego Peña had a solid day on the court for the Saints, knocking eight kills on 17 attempts for a .235 hitting percentage. He added five digs and two service aces.
- Hayden Kerekes put up 6.5 points with four kills and four total blocks.
- Grayson Andrews had 26 assists in the match.
How It Happened
- After falling down 2-0 in the first set, the Saints began to push the offense, going on a 6-1 run to go up 6-3 early in the first set.
- With the Eagles taking the first set of play, the Saints came out swinging in the second half looking to grab some momentum. Robinson started the frame off with a powerful kill to get things started and take the early lead.
- Tied 11-11 later in the second set, Peña powered a shot to the floor to give the Saints another lead near the halfway mark of the set.
- The Eagles grabbed the strong momentum down the stretch of the second set to finish it off and take a 2-0 match lead.
- The third set was a back-and-forth battle of the two nationally-touted teams. The Saints began to gain momentum with a kill from Robinson to take the 19-18 lead.
- The Saints wound up taking the third set by a final score of 25-22, looking to mount the comeback.
- Messiah ultimately took the fourth and final frame of the match to take the contest.
