WASHINGTON – The Marymount men's and women's tennis programs each pulled out a tight victory over Catholic on Sunday afternoon to give the Saints an early 2-0 advantage in the yearlong Pope's Cup competition between the area's two Division III Catholic universities.

NOTABLE

• Marymount men's tennis has now won 11 straight matches dating back to last season.
• At #3 doubles on the men's side, Nicolas Stromberg and Nathaniel Tesfaye teamed up to win in the tiebreak, 7-5.
• Dean Cole dug deep in a come-from-behind win at #5 singles on the men's side. After dropping the first set, he responded by winning 6-4 and 11-9 in the final two sets to clinch the victory.
• Marymount women's tennis won four of the six singles matches to propel the Saints to a 5-4 victory.
• Angelica Dalton and Ariane Kombou each picked up their first singles victories of the season.
