Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – The Marymount University men's basketball team traveled to Cabrini University on Wednesday night, earning an 86-60 Atlantic East Conference win.
Four Saints reached double-digit scoring in the contest, led by sophomore Montell Cooper's 19. Senior Xavier Reaves chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
It took little time for Marymount to gain control of the game, jumping out to a 9-3 lead in the first three minutes on a jumper from Reaves. Sophomore Marcus Stubbs buried a three to get the lead to double-figures, 18-7, less than eight minutes in.
The Saints led by as many as 20 points in the opening half, holding an advantage for over 19 minutes of play.
They took a 44-29 lead into halftime, led by Stubbs and Reaves with 14 points and 13 points, respectively. The team shot over 53 percent in the half and took advantage of 11 Cabrini turnovers with 12 points off of turnovers.
The Cavaliers began the second half with a 15-9 run to cut the Saints lead to seven, 53-46, but Cabrini would not get any closer the rest of the way.
In the final 13 minutes of play, the Saints regained full control, getting the lead back to double-figures for good at the 9:29 mark on a Reaves' free throw. They continued to grow the lead with a 13-0 run, led by six points from Cooper, for an 80-57 lead with 1:52 to play.
Marymount's biggest lead came with 38 seconds left at 28 points, cruising to victory.
Stubbs finished the game with 17 points, while senior Zamir Clifton added 12. The Saints finished the game shooting 54.5 percent while holding the Cavaliers to just 33.8 percent from the floor.
Marymount will return home on Saturday, February 12 for an Atlantic East matchup with Gwynedd Mercy University. The opening tip is set for 3 p.m.
