RADNOR, Pa. -- The Marymount University women's basketball team improved to 7-1 in Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday night with a 57-53 win over Cabrini University.

The tilt came down to the wire between the two conference rivals, but the Saints were able to hang on down the stretch for the victory. The Blue and White started the fourth quarter with a slim five-point lead. MU eventually stretched its advantage to 10, after a 3-pointer from Terra Dzambo and a layup from Symantha Shackelford. 

The back-and-forth nature of the contest continued, however, and as time wound down, Cabrini pulled back within three at 53-50. Claire Smith answered almost immediately for Marymount with a make in the paint off of a feed from Shackelford. A late make from deep from Cabrini cut the Saints' lead to 55-53, but Shackelford calmly knocked down a pair of free throws with 12 seconds on the clock to seal the contest. 

While Cabrini kept it close throughout the contest, Marymount's performance on the boards and in the paint made the difference. The Saints ended the tilt with a 46-25 advantage on the glass and a 32-22 edge in points in the paint. The Blue and White's efforts on the offensive glass also resulted in 15 second-chance points. 

A trio of Saints finished in double-figures, headlined by a pair of double-doubles from Chandler Eddleton and Smith. Eddleton poured in a game-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Smith tallied 11 points and pulled down a game-best 13 boards. Shackelford rounded out MU's double-digit scorers with 14 points and three assists. 

The Blue and White return home to continue conference action on Saturday, February 12, against Gwynedd Mercy University on Alumni Day. The contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
