Men's Basketball Rolls Past Marywood at Home

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University men's basketball team earned its second consecutive Atlantic East Conference victory on Saturday afternoon with a 73-61 win over Marywood University.

The Saints stormed out of the gates against the Pacers with a 22-8 run over the first 12 minutes of the game. Wyatt Hockenberry and Roey Stern capped the barrage with back-to-back layups, which forced Marywood to burn a timeout. As the half wore on, Marywood clawed back into the contest and cut the Saints' lead to five at 30-25. Marcus Stubbs re-established a seven-point lead for the Blue and White with a make from deep, while Stern added a free throw to send Marymount into the break, up 35-27.

Marymount continued to find success on offense in the second half, as the Saints shot 50% from the floor during the period. MU traded buckets with the Pacers throughout the start of the half, but a layup from Montell Cooper put Marymount up, 53-43, with a little under 11 minutes to play. MU cruised from there, as the Saints' defense held Marywood scoreless for a two-minute stretch as time wound down to seal the win.

MU was led by the trip of Cooper, Stern, and Jack Bifano. Cooper finished with a game-high 15 points, while Stern and Bifano both finished with 10 points. Cooper added six rebounds, four assists, and a season-best five steals. For Bifano, the performance marked season-highs in both points and boards. Xavier Reaves led the Saints on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds. The senior chipped in seven points and two assists on the offensive end.

The Saints hit the road for their next conference on Wednesday, February 9, when they battle Cabrini University at 8:00 p.m.
