St. Mary's City, Md. -- The Marymount University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback to the Seahawks of St. Mary's College on Saturday afternoon.
St. Mary's swept the doubles matches, but not without a fight. After an 8-0 win at second doubles, the Seahawks were locked in a pair of tights battles at first and third doubles. At the top spot, Marymount's Angelica Dalton and Caroline Haymans came up short by a single break of serve, 8-6, as did MU's third doubles tandem of Ariane Sperole Kombo and Melody Salguero.
Marymount looked to bounce back in the singles portion of today's non-league match, but St. Mary's rode the momentum from doubles into singles and marched away with wins in all but one match.
The lone Marymount point of the day occurred on court one, as Haymans handed St. Mary's Diana Levit a straight-set defeat by scores of 6-3, 6-4. It marked the first win of the 2021-22 season for the Great Falls, Virginia, native.
The Saints return to the courts on Wednesday, March 9, when they travel to Bel Air, Maryland, to square off with Harford Community College at 2:30 p.m.
