St. Mary's City, Md. -- In a hard-fought match at the Somerset Tennis Complex, the Marymount University men's tennis team came up short against St. Mary's College, 6-3.
The Seahawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins at second and third doubles, but Marymount's top tandem of Dorian Guiot and Michael Miller put the Saints on the board with an 8-3 win.
In singles action, there were several high-competitive matches, but St. Mary's eventually claimed wins in four of the six matches to clinch the victory.
Guiot had an impressive showing for the Saints at the No. 2 position, as he blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. The Frankfurt, Germany, native ended the afternoon as Marymount's lone double-winner.
Nicolas Stromberg got into the win column on Saturday afternoon with a hard-nosed 6-4, 6-2 win at the third singles spot. It marked the third win of the season for the Stockholm, Sweden product.
Although Miller didn't get the win at No. 1 singles, he did provide a high-quality match. The rookie edged St. Mary's Stephen Alam, 6-3, in the opening set but Alam rallied with 6-1, 6-3 wins in the final two sets to secure the victory.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, March 9, when they travel to Bel Air, Maryland, to face Harford Community College at 2:30 p.m.
