Men's Basketball Edges Immaculata on the Road

Box Score

IMMACULATA, Pa. -- The Marymount University men's basketball team continued its winning ways on Wednesday evening with a 70-66 victory over Immaculata University on the road.

The Saints avenged an earlier loss against the Mighty Macs behind a stellar offensive performance from Marcus Stubbs. The sophomore poured in a career-high 23 points with a near spotless 75% (9-for-12) mark from the field. He knocked down five shots from beyond the arc at a 62.5% (5-for-8) clip. He added two rebounds and two assists to round out his contribution.

Miles Brown joined Stubbs in double figures with 15 points. Montell Cooper rounded out the Blue and White's double-digit scorers with 11 points. Cooper finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-best nine boards. Roey Stern and Cooper each added a team-high-tying four assists to orchestrate the Saints' offense.

The contest was tight throughout, but the Saints held the lead for a little over 37 minutes of the tilt. Marymount feasted on Immaculata's turnovers, as the Blue and White forced the Mighty Macs into 21. Those miscues turned into 21 points for Marymount.

MU held an eight-point lead, 32-24, at the half, which set up a down to the wire finish as Immaculata pushed for a comeback. The Saints opened the frame on a tear, with a 10-0 run to take a 41-27 lead. Zamir Clifton suppled five of the points during the barrage. As the half wore on, Immaculata slowly chipped away at MU's advantage and pulled back within four with 1:29 on the clock.

The Mighty Macs made it a one-point game with 12 ticks on the clock, but Cooper knocked down a trio of free throws to seal the victory for the Saints.

Marymount returns home for its final game of the regular season on Saturday, February 19, to host Neumann University at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, the Saints will recognize their four members of the Class of 2022.
