INDIANAPOLIS — Marymount men's soccer has learned its NCAA Tournament destination as the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee announced the full 64-team field on Monday afternoon.
The Saints will play on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 AM against host and Coast-to-Coast champion Mary Washington. The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of North Coast Athletic Conference champion Ohio Wesleyan and United East champion Penn State-Harrisburg.
SCOUTING THE REGION
- Mary Washington and Marymount were long-time conference foes in the former Capital Athletic Conference. The Saints have only mustered a 2-33-1 all-time record against the Eagles.
- The last Marymount win in the series came on Sept. 29, 2012 (1-0). The last time Marymount won on the road against Mary Washington was Nov. 1, 2003 (2-1).
- Marymount is 2-4 all-time against Penn State-Harrisburg with the last win coming on Oct. 24, 2015.
- Marymount and Ohio Wesleyan have never met before.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
- Marymount enters the tournament unbeaten in its last seven matches.
- The Saints made an improbable comeback against Neumann to win the Atlantic East title on Saturday. In the 88th minute, Neumann was whistled for a handball and Leonardo Torres slotted in the penalty to tie the game 1-1.
- The championship extended in penalty kicks with Marymount making four of five attempts. Neumann missed twice, including a shot that hit the crossbar on the Knight's final attempt.
- The men's soccer program has rewritten the record book this season with Torres holding the single-season and all-time records for both points and goals.
- Senior Derek Rivera holds the all-time record for assists and is currently tied for first in single-season assists (10).
- The Saints have won 12 games and recorded eight shutouts this season, both of which are new program standards.
- This will be the first time in the 33-year program history that Marymount men's soccer is making an NCAA Tournament appearance.
- Head coach Nate Kalin is in his fourth season at the helm. Although he has coached for 14 seasons at four different stops, this will be Kalin's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament as the leader of a program.
