Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, MD. -- A potent offense from the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University made the difference on Sunday afternoon, as the Marymount University women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to close out the Seahawk Classic on the campus of Mt. Saint Mary's (Md.).
The Saints battled for possession throughout the contest, which resulted in 11 shots. Salisbury enjoyed more of the ball, however, which resulted in 20 shots for the Sea Gulls. MU's defense stood tall under the barrage, but Salisbury's relentless approach was too much to overcome.
Freshman Grace Needham made her second consecutive start to open the season and finished the contest with three saves. Junior Emely Obregon tallied three shots, while Sita Nair and Laney Placido finished with two apiece.
The Saints' best opportunity came in the 27th minute, as Izabella Lopez rifled a shot on goal. The freshman's attempt whizzed towards the bottom left corner of the goal, but Salisbury's netminder managed to push the shot away.
Marymount is back in action on Wednesday, September 8, when the Saints host Gallaudet University in their home opener at Long Bridge Park. The contest is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
