Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Marymount University men's soccer team came out on top in Saturday's game against Waynesburg University, 5-3.
The Saints came out strong with freshman Leonardo Torres scoring the first goal of the game just over 11 minutes in. He was assisted by sophomore Manny Gaunaurd. The Yellow Jackets responded with a goal of their own less than 30 seconds later.
The Saints didn't let the tie stand for long, and at the 26:43 mark, Torres scored his second goal of the game, once again assisted by Gaunaurd.
The Saints continued their attack, scoring two more goals in the first half. Freshman Nicolas Robles scored both goals, the first assisted by Torres and the second by sophomore Nicholas Vigo.
Marymount took the 4-1 lead into halftime. At the break, the Saints led in shots, 14-8, and each team had attempted one corner kick.
To start the second half, Marymount put away its fifth goal, scored by junior Derek Rivera.
The Yellow Jackets attempted a comeback scoring two goals in the remainder of the second half but were unable to catch the Saints.
Senior Ronald Clark started in goal for the Saints and amassed four saves. Junior Eduardo Cardonne stepped in to goal for the last 15 minutes and tallied his first save of the season.
The Saints will be back at home for their next game against Hood College on Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m.
