Box Score YORK, Pa. -- The Marymount University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 overtime draw on the road against York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening.
With the decision, Marymount moved to 3-4-1 on the year, while York's overall record moved to 2-3-2. MU's Ronald Clark stood tall in goal for the full 110:00 as the Spartans fired 18 shots on their home field, seven of which found their way on target. The senior tallied a season-best six saves to preserve the tie.
The Spartans took a 1-0 advantage early, as a goal in the 30th minute put the home side in front. MU had a few chances over the remainder of the first half, but York turned away thee Saints' attempts.
As the second half opened, the pace of play and physicality increased as York looked to fend off Marymount's attack. MU's pressure paid off in the 61st minute, as Carlos Varona scored his second goal in as many games to level the score. The junior buried a shot into the back of the net after Nicholas Vigo served the ball into the box off of a corner chance. For Vigo, the assist marked his second of the campaign.
Clark spurned a late attempt from the Spartans in the 89th minute to force overtime. MU earned a trio of corner kick opportunities in the first 10 minutes of overtime but was unable to convert.
As the two sides continued to search for the winner as the second overtime period rolled in, Clark rose to the occasion one final time for the Blue and White in the 110th minute with a save to seal the game's final scoreline.
MU remains on the road for its next contest when it battles Waynesburg University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
