Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Marymount University women's volleyball team notched its third win in three days on Thursday night, taking down Virginia Wesleyan University, 3-1.
Sophomore Elissa Munsterman set her career-high in kills for the second-straight match, with a match-high 23. Junior Kaitlyn Doyle tallied 14 kills, which marks her highest total since joining the Saints this season.
Freshman Sydney Sands kept the offense in rhythm with a career-high 45 assists, while senior Jasmine Roy tallied her career-best 28 digs in the final game of her career to lead the team.
Marymount dropped the first set, 25-17, before taking three-straight to earn a hard-found victory. The first set was close from the start, but with the Saints trailing, 15-14, the Marlins went on a 10-3 run to end the set.
The start of the second set was a tight battle, as well, but a 6-3 run, after a 10-10 tie, gave MU the lead for good. Munsterman and Doyle, each, put down a kill to help push the lead to 20-16.
Despite the Marlins fighting back to tie the set, 22-22, Munsterman and Doyle notched back-to-back kills to close the set.
The teams needed extra points to decide the third set, but the Saints were able to grab the match lead with a 31-29 win. Munsterman caught fire in the set with eight kills to lead the team.
After trailing for much of the fourth set, the Saints tied the score late, 19-19, and ended the match on a 6-4 run. Munsterman helped close the match with two kills in the final run, while Doyle added one.
