Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's volleyball team improved its record to 3-1 on the season, defeating Cabrini University on Wednesday, 3-1, at the Converse Family Fieldhouse.
The Saints were paced by a career day from sophomore Elissa Munsterman, who set a career-high with 21 kills and tied a career-high with 16 digs. She finished with a blistering .354 hitting percentage.
Kills from Munsterman and junior Kaitlyn Doyle helped the Saints take a 4-0 lead to start the match.
Marymount held the lead for the entirety of the first set, growing it to as many as eight points, 21-13. Doyle put down the final kill in the set for a 25-19 win.
Munsterman notched three kills in the opening moments of the second set, as MU jumped out to another early lead, 5-1. Cabrini cut the lead down to 10-8, but the Saints would not give in. They led the rest of the way, as Munsterman put down a final kill to end the set, 25-20.
Marymount looked to close the match out in the third, holding another lead for the majority of play. The Saints held a 19-16 edge, but Cabrini responded with a 9-4 run to come back and force a fourth frame.
Munsterman tallied a kill to start the fourth set, and the team took its cue from there. Kills from freshman Jada Griffith and sophomore Aja' Irving, followed by a service ace by freshman Sydney Sands, built a 9-5 lead.
Marymount continued to push its advantage to double digits, 20-10 and had no issues closing the match. Munsterman put down four kills in the frame, while Griffith added three.
Senior Jasmine Roy paced the defense with 18 digs, while Sands added a career-high 16, to go with 29 assists.
Marymount will close out its season on Thursday, March 18 at Virginia Wesleyan University. The match is set for 6 p.m.
