Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Marymount University women's volleyball team traveled to Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday evening, falling to the Yellow Jackets, 3-0.
The Saints went down early, 6-2, in the first set, but a kill and two service aces by sophomore Elissa Munsterman got Marymount back to within one. Munsterman led the team on the night with six kills, four service aces, and two blocks.
In a set of runs, Randolph-Macon rebuilt a 13-6 lead, but the Saints, again, fought back to get back within two. Munsterman added two more aces and another kill, as MU stayed close late, 22-19, but the Yellow Jackets held on for the set victory.
A kill from freshman Sydney Sands gave Marymount a 6-5 edge to start the second set, but Randolph-Macon responded to take a 10-6 lead. The Yellow Jackets would lead the rest of the way, despite the Saints keeping the score close.
Junior Caylee Shelton put down three kills as the Saints continued to battle, but a 5-0 run for the Yellow Jackets closed the set.
Randolph-Macon took a 9-3 lead to open the third, but kills from Munsterman, freshman Mya Bowers, and sophomore Aja' Irving helped the Saints cut the lead to 12-10 and get back into the frame.
The Yellow Jackets would not relinquish the lead, though, going on to take the three-set win.
Shelton and junior Kaitlyn Doyle, each, added five kills. Sands tallied 22 assists, and senior Jasmine Roy paced the defense with 11 digs.
Marymount will return to action on Tuesday, March 16 at Neumann University, with the match set for 7 p.m.
