Women's Soccer Battles Neumann to 1-1 OT Draw

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. --The Marymount University women's soccer team picked up a hard-fought 1-1 overtime draw in the team's first road tilt of the season against Neumann University on Wednesday evening.

Despite a slow start to the contest, MU dominated the game throughout the second half and overtime. Marymount ended the contest with a 15-11 advantage in shots. Nine of the Blue and White's 15 attempts were on target, while only four of Neumann's strikes tested Mary Mac Bradshaw in goal.

The Knights controlled possession during the opening 45 minutes, as the home side registered seven shots, three of which found their way on target. Neumann's barrage paid off in the 17th minute, as a strike from Morgan Ryan off of a corner kick managed to sneak past Mac Bradshaw.

Despite the early deficit, the Saints were undeterred. The Blue and White grew into the contest in the second half and seized control of the ball from the home side. MU's intensity resulted in a 9-3 advantage in shots during the frame, as Marymount's attack wreaked havoc on Neumann's defense.

The pressure paid off in spades in the 72nd minute. Freshman Brianna Arevalo picked a Neumann defender's pocket and rolled the ball to classmate Alyssa Romer at the top of the 18-yard box. The Vienna, Virginia native settled the ball and immediately put her laces through the ball. The right-footed shot flew past the on-rushing Keri Mallon and into the back of the net for the equalizer.

The Blue and White continued to push for a winner as time wound down in regulation. Julissa Gallegos raced down the right-wing and cut in with a shot with eight ticks on the clock, but Mallon smothered the effort to send the game into overtime.

MU continued to apply pressure in overtime, as the Saints blasted three attempts on goal compared to just one from the Knights. Mariana Allman, Sita Nair, and Mia Londregan all tested Neumann's goalkeeper but were unable to find the back of the net, as Mac Bradshaw spurned the home side's lone attempt on target to seal the 1-1 final score.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, March 13, when they travel to Shenandoah University for a 2 p.m. tilt against the Hornets.
