Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University women's basketball team bounced back in a big way on Wednesday night with a dominant 66-23 win over St. Mary's College (Md.) inside of Converse Family Fieldhouse.
The Saints used a big first quarter to take control of the contest with a 22-8 lead after 10 minutes. With the score at 14-8, MU used eight consecutive points to take the wind out of the Seahawks' sails. Claire Smith and Symantha Shackelford kickstarted the run with back-to-back baskets which saw MU bludgeon St. Mary's on both ends of the floor.
With a 14-point lead in hand, Marymount never looked back over the last 30 minutes of the tilt. The Blue and White's defense held St. Mary's to just 14.8% (8-for-54) shooting from the floor and tallied a season-high-tying 13 steals to stifle any chance of a comeback. The Saints' dominance was further evidenced on the glass with their 54-35 edge in rebounds.
A trio of Saints finished in double figures to lead the barrage against the Seahawks. Terra Dzambo led the charge with 18 points and a 5-for-7 (71.4%) mark from beyond the arc. The sophomore added five boards, two assists, and two steals to round out her stat line. Shackelford finished just behind Dzambo in points with 15. The junior also tied her career-high with seven assists.
Katie McShea rounded out the Blue and Whites' double-digit scorers with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double. The senior also chipped in three blocks and two steals.
Marymount returns to action on Sunday, December 12, when the Saints battle No. 5/9 nationally-ranked Christopher Newport University.
