Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – The Marymount University men's soccer team fell in the Atlantic East Conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday night at Cabrini University, 1-0, to see its postseason run come to a close.
The Cavaliers capitalized early in the 13th minute, with a goal on their first shot of the game.
The score proved to be the difference in the game, as the Saints' offense struggled to get going. In the final 10 minutes of the first half juniors Brandon Jardine and Carlos Varona, each, put a shot on frame, the first shots for the team in the game, but both were corralled by Cabrini goalkeeper MJ Graham.
At halftime, the teams were tied with two shots, apiece, while the Saints led in corner kicks, 4-1.
Sophomore Jared Williams put a shot on goal just over four minutes into the second half, but Graham was, again, there for the stop.
Marymount looked to even the score on a free-kick chance late in the second half. After Cabrini thwarted the initial kick, a second entry into the box found the head of Varona, who directed the ball on goal. His attempt was stopped, however, forcing Graham to make a leaping catch.
Sophomore Brian Cruz stopped a fast break attempt, turning away two Cabrini shots to keep the deficit at one, with less than seven minutes to go.
Despite the Saints' efforts, the Cavaliers were able to hold on to the victory.
Cruz played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.
