Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University women's soccer team's season drew to a close in the opening round of the Atlantic East Conference Tournament on Monday afternoon, as the Saints were unable to fend off Centenary University.
After a scoreless first half, the Saints struck first in the second half on a breezy day at Long Bridge Park. Marymount's marker came via Sita Nair, who found the back of the net in the 58th minute. After the ball was served into the box, it quickly took a deflection and bounced around the turf. Nair collected the ball and rifled a shot in just under the cross bar to give MU the lead.
Despite the one-goal lead, Centenary knotted the score five minutes later. A free kick opportunity led the goal for the visitors. Over the next 23 minutes, the Saints pushed for the game-winner.
MU fired four shots over that time, one of which, from Izabella Lopez, forced Centenary's Chelsea Ostacio into a save. Despite the increased pressure from the Blue and White, the Cyclones managed to steal the lead in the 85th minute, as a loose ball in the 18-yard box was poked past MU's Grace Needham for the deciding tally.
In goal, Needham tallied one save in 90 minutes of work. Nair's tally brought her season-total to six goals.
