Women's Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints earned a 3-0 win over Marywood University in the first tilt of the day.

Match One

Marymount started the afternoon off in high-flying fashion with a 3-0 sweep of Atlantic East Conference foe Marywood. Before the start of the match, the Saints honored their lone senior, Caylee Shelton, for Class of 2022 Recognition Day.

The Saints rolled past their conference foe in straight sets by final scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-19. MU's offense was solid with a .248 attack percentage, while Marywood mustered just a .092 hitting percentage.

MU's offensive barrage was well-balanced, as seven players finished with four or more kills. Kaitlyn Doyle led the way with eight kills, while Shelton and Maya Harris added five apiece. Harris also finished with a team-best four blocks. On the defensive side of the ball, Natalie Garbalosa and Shelton paced the Saints with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Blue and White's offensive showing was buoyed by three double-digit-assist performances. Alexis Franklin finished with a match-high 16 assists, while Natalie Bialecki finished with 13. Sydney Sands rounded out the trip with 10 assists.

Match Two

In Marymount's second match of the day, the Saints battled the always-tough University of Mary Washington. MU went blow-for-blow with the visitors, but was unable to keep pace with the Eagles, as they earned a 3-0 win over the Saints.

The opening frame set the pace for the remainder of the match, as the two sides battled to a wild 27-25 finish. After plenty of back-and-forth, the Eagles managed to build a 22-18 lead. The Saints responded in kind, however, with a 5-0 run. Elissa Munsterman kickstarted the run with a kill, while an ace from Sydney Sands highlighted the tail end of the barrage.

MU earned a pair of set-point chances as the set wore on via kills from Munsterman, but the Blue and white were unable to capitalize. UMW managed to close out the set with three consecutive points.

Marymount kept the match just as close throughout the final two sets, but UMW's consistent offense proved to be too much to overcome, as the visitors took both frames, 25-20.

On offense, the Blue and White had three hitters finish in double digits. Doyle tallied 12 kills, while Munsterman and Shelton each floored 10. Munsterman was particularly efficient with a team-best .320 attack percentage. Sands finished with a match-high 29 assists, while Sarah Pham totaled 17 digs.

Marymount closes out Atlantic East play on Wednesday, October 27, when it hosts Cabrini University in Converse Family Fieldhouse at 7:00 p.m.
